Lake Norman

Lake Norman is located in the northern section of Mecklenburg county 18 miles Northwest of Charlotte. Lake Norman was created between 1959 and 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam by Duke Power. It was named after Duke Power president Norman Cooke. It’s 520 miles of shoreline provides electricity to the piedmont region of the Carolinas. The lake supplies water to Lincoln County, Mooresville, Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Many communities have sprung up on Lake Norman with vacation and primary residents. The lake has incredible views with multi million dollar homes hugging its shores. Lake Norman comes alive from May to September with good times. Skiing, fishing, boating and bar hopping are on the agenda. The newly added Birkdale Village has only contributed to the magnificence of the area. Lake Norman has over 60,000 residents including some of Charlotte’s most famous athletes and business owners. The Lake Norman region is home to Mooresville, N.C. which is also known as RACE CITY USA!! It is considered area 13.
