Norman was created between 1959 and 1964 as part of the construction of the Cowans Ford Dam by Duke Power. It was named after Duke Power president Norman Cooke. It’s 520 miles of shoreline provides electricity to the piedmont region of the
Carolinas. The lake supplies water to

County, Mooresville,
Charlotte and
Mecklenburg
County.
Many communities have sprung up on
Lake
Norman with vacation and primary residents. The lake has incredible views with multi million dollar homes hugging its shores.
